GRIDLEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES ENDOWMENT OF JOAN CARLIN MEMORIAL FUND
The Gridley Education Foundation recently announced that it has established and endowed the JOAN CARLIN MEMORIAL FUND. The Carlin Fund was originally funded with a $3,000 gift from the Gridley Education Foundation general fund and from significant gifts from family members and friends of Joan Carlin. The earnings from the Carlin Fund will be awarded to faculty members of the Gridley Unified School District that apply annually for grants to be used to improve the education of Gridley students. The grants will be made for such things as educational materials, equipment, and programs that are not other wise supported by government funding. The grant committee that will oversee the awarding of the grants will be made up of a teacher from each of the school sites, one administrator, a retired teacher, and a representative from the Foundation. The initial members of the committee are: Karen Watson, Karen Rudd, Mike Erickson, Anne Onyett, Joan Casillas, Chris McIntire, and Robert Harp. Joan Carlin was a popular and talented teacher that taught at the Gridley Schools for over 31 years. She made many contributions to Gridley Schools over her many years of distinguished service. Stan Potoski, President of the Foundation, said, "The Foundation is very pleased to work with the Carlin family and friends to be able to assist the faculty of the Gridley Schools to improve the education of Gridley students. I believe the JOAN CARLIN MEMORIAL FUND, which I refer to as "Carlin Grants", is a proper and fitting way to recognize and honor such an outstanding and dedicated teacher." "I believe my mother would have been very proud and honored to have this fund named after her and for the good works it will carry out", stated Lori Carlin Proctor. Gifts can be made to the JOAN CARLIN MEMORIAL FUND or to one of the other Gridley Education Foundation funds by calling Connie Cavanaugh at (530) 846-4721 or by contacting one of the members of the Foundations Board of Directors Click Here for the Grant Information
